First Credit Union has a commitment to its members to:
First Credit Union has an extensive school banking programme in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty, with over 35 participating schools.
We offer a budgeting service where members can meet with a staff member to work out a plan to get them out of debt and get them on track.
First Credit Union is not-for-profit, which means money is returned to members through low cost loans and better interest rates. We also try to keep fees and charges minimal.
Members with personal loans must also open a S6 Loan Provider Account, and save a minimum of $5 a week into it for the duration of their loan. Not only does this mean that the member comes out of debt with savings, but this money helps to create the loan pool from which we loan to members in the cooperative nature of the credit union.
We have a commitment to members to ensure their level of debt is manageable and sustainable. Loan applications are approved based on a number of criteria, including an assessment of affordability and capacity to repay debt.
